Abstract

Singkong gajah is a type of tuber plant that can be used as raw material for food and as raw material for renewable energy. The advantage of the singkong gajah variety is its high level of productivity. In Rantau Pulung, there is a factory that processes Singkong Gajah into tapioca flour. So that it produce dry waste in the form of cassava peels which can be used as fertilizer or as raw material for biobriquette charcoal. The purpose of this study is to contain the characteristics of briquettes made from singkong gajah peel charcoal and the effect of the comparison tapioca flour with charcoal on heating value and burning rate. Characteristics of Singkong Gajah peel briquettes can be seen from the parameters of water content, carbon content, volatile matter content, density, ash content and calorific value. The characteristics of Singkong Gajah peel briquettes in this research did not qualify the SNI briquettes. The effect of concentration on calorific value and combustion rate based on ANOVA was significantly different. The effect of adhesive on the parameters that affect the calorific value is significantly different on the parameters of volatile matter and fix carbon. The results of the BNT test on volatile matter, fix carbon and calorific value are P5 with P7 significantly different while P7 and P9 were not significantly different. Further tests on the combustion rate of P5 and P7 are not significantly different while P7 and P9 were significantly different.
