Abstract
Research aimed was to utilize bore-well water with salinity ranging from 15-20 ppm at campus of Stiper Kutai Timur for feasibility of live tiger prawn (Paneus monodon sp), by a tarpaulin pond system. Research was conducted on May - July 2019 at Field Laboratory of Aquaculture Studies Program at Agricultural College of East Kutai, the material used namely water quality test for feasibility of live sea biota, including temperature, salinity, DO and pH. The data was analyzed on the ability of water source and the water need of pond, and survival rate indicators of animal test to determine whether or not it is feasible. The results of water quality observations obtained during the study were at an average salinity range 15-20 ppt, pH — 8,2, temperature 26,60 — 29,68 0 C and DO 4,2 — 6,2 mg/l, the average value of water quality is still within the tolerance of sea biota in the indicator test. The availability and quality of bore-well water in Campus area of Stiper it's able to fulfill the needs and can be used as the main water source for culture of Tiger Prawn (Penaeus monodon sp) in tarpaulin pond system. The low survival rate of biota obtained due to the low of dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration which is caused by non-technical factors (frequently blackout occur). Keywords: DO, pH, Salinity, temperature and tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon sp)
