Abstract

Research aimed was was to determine the utilization of Aquatic Plants: Eichhornia crassipes (water hyacinth), Pistia stratiotes (water lettuce) and Lemna minor (duckweed) which are effective in absorbing the zinc heavy metal (Zn). The research method were used a descriptive method by testing samples in laboratory and experimental method i.e. to find out the comparison between aquatic plants which is better and be able to reduce the concentration of heavy metals on wastewater. Preliminary data from the research results showed that the absorption of aquatic plants Eichhornia crassipes, Pistia stratiotes and Lemna minor was able to reduce the specific zinc heavy metal (Zn) with the same concentration value in each sample water, namely by 0,71 mg/L level, after being treated with Eichhornia crassipes. (Water hyacinth) decreased to 0,24 mg/L, Pistia stratiotes (water lettuce) 0,42 mg/L, Lemna minor (duckweed) 0,16 mg/L. The absorption percentage of zinc heavy metal (Zn) from Eichhornia crassipes was 66,19%, Pistia stratiotes 40,84%, and Lemna minor 77,46%. Keywords: Zinc Heavy Metal (Zn), Polluted Water, Aquatic Plants
