Abstract
This study aimed to determine the effect of Differences in Proportion of Preservative Sources on the Physical Quality of Silage included silage color, texture, flavour, and the presence of fungi. The study used completely randomized design 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments consisted of S1 (90% forage, 9% rice bran, 1% lactic acid bacteria), S2 (90% forage, 8% rice bran, 1% molasses, 1% lactic acid bacteria), S3 (90% forage, 9% rice bran, 1% Efectif Microorganism-4 (EM4)), and S4 (90% forage, 8% rice bran, 1% molasses, 1% EM4), respectively. The variables observed were physical quality of silage including silage colour, texture, flavour, and the presence of fungi. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance. The results showed that the addition of a preservatives type formula were not significantly differences between of treatments to silage colour, texture, flavour, and the presence of fungi. It could be concluded that the addition of preservative type formula were not significantly differences on the physical quality of silage. The S1 treatment was the simplest treatment and easily applied by farmers, while the S2, S3, and S4 treatments were less effective for farmers because its contain preservatives that were difficult to find and were not economical price. Keywords: EM4, forage, molasses, lactic acid bacteria, rice bran, silage
